Vince Yost/Monica Deal Memorial Reading Garden
We established the Vince Yost-Monica Deal Memorial Reading Garden in 2011 after the school lost two long-time educators tragically, both passing away within weeks of each other. We are very proud of this garden. We appreciate each of our sponsors and all those who work hard to keep it alive and beautiful.
About the Garden
Local donors, the Pleasant PTO, and various school garden grants support the garden. The garden is under the constant care of Mr. Machado and his garden club. This club is composed of fourth and fifth graders who meet weekly. They are in charge of tending to the garden, planting new fruits and vegetables, giving class tours, and selling their items at the bi-annual school Farmer’s Market. The garden also provides learning opportunities for students at Pleasant to interact with agriculture. Students have access to plants grouped by different biomes, vegetables and fruits in planter boxes, a functioning green house, composting, and an above ground pond. The garden also provides a place for the school community to sit and eat.
Our garden would not be possible without the support of our local sponsors. We greatly appreciate their generosity.
